Too Young for Explorers?

The NYC Law Enforcement Exploring program is for youth ages 14 through 20 years old. If you are too young for Exploring, be sure to check out the NYPD's Youth Police Academy. More information can be found by googling the YPA and the application can be found by following this link  YPA Application .

Great News! The Exploring Staff would like to welcome our newest member; Kuturie Rouse. As a former Four Star Exploring Chief he brings with him an extensive knowledge of how the program works. Kuturie is a graduate of Farmingdale State College where he obtained his bachelors in Criminal Justice. He will be responsible for Law Enforcement Exploring Posts in Brooklyn and Queens!

The Exploring program would like to thank the United States Secret Service for hosting this years Law Enforcement Exploring Recognition and Awards Dinner. This year we had about 740 guests, the largest dinner to date! Dear Post Advisors & Supervisors,

You are cordially invited to attend our back by popular demand stage play “I See You” showing at The 81st Precinct Teen Impact Center, P.S. 21 Crispus Attucks, located at 180 Chauncey St. “I See You” will be held on Tuesday May 15, Wednesday May 16 & Thursday May 17 commencing at 1900hrs. Tickets are $12 per person.

This event will include a compilation of the 81st Precinct youth explorers, police officers/sergeants and members of The Bedford Stuyvesant community ”acting on stage” to deliver a show stopping performance as they address the various socio-economic issues our youth are faced with in everyday situations, with a specific focus on problem resolution. This production has already impacted many lives as it is vibrating a powerful message to the community at large. “I See You” is not just a stage play, it’s a movement!

The 2012 NYC Law Enforcement Exploring Recognition & Scholarship Dinner was a complete success!! Held at the enchanting Marina Del Rey in the Bronx NY. Hosted by the Metropolitan Police Authority (MTA) who worked diligently with LFL to make this event run seamlessly. Well over 600 guests attended, amongst them explorers, advisors and dignitaries. Sixty six explorers were awarded the honor of Explorer of the Year from their respective post advisors. Other awards included Outstanding New Post Advisor, Post advisor of the year, Years of Service Award, and 5 scholarship awards to the essay contest winners. Congratulations to all the award recipients and to all who attended, as this event is meant to recognize each and one of you who make law enforcement exploring an amazing experience for all.

Want to become an EOA representative? Now is the time!! Submit a 250 word essay to your liaison answering the following question, why should you be an EOA representative? MUST BE A HIGH RANK IN COMMAND! (NYPD representatives must be LT. and up).

There are a lot of events coming up in June, July, and August. To name a few, a Yankees Game, School Safety Unity Day, and the EMT Certification/Training Course. Registration is open for the Summer Academy as well by visiting August on the program calendar. The one-day registration will be on July 29th @ Fordham U.


The School Safety Explorer Posts are hosting a Expo at Brookville PArk for all ages and members of the community. Food, fun and games, bike safety information and Explorers demonstarting some of their techniques are just some of the activties to look forward to. Check out the 'program calendar' for more information and register on that page if you wish to receive more information on Exploring.


The 2011 Spring Competition at Camp Pouch in Staten Island NY was a great success! Over 375 Explorers competed in the 7 scenarios offered. Congrats to all those who placed and a list of winners will follow.

SAVE THE DATE!! The Spring Competition Training Seminars will be held at the beggining on April 19th, 20th, and 21st.


The 2011 NYC Law Enforcement Exploring Recognition and Scholarship Dinner was a huge success! Held at the beautiful Marina Del Rey in the Bronx NY, 600 guests, dignitaries, advisors and Explorers attended the wonderful event that was hosted by the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation. The JFK and Newark USCBP Honor guards and the NYPD's ceremonial units all participated in what was an amazing ceremony. Special thanks to DJ Todd Taylor for his role in the evenings activites. Over 75 Explorers were awarded the honor of Explorer of the Year from their respective post advisors. Other awards included honorable community service awards, the Post advisor of the year awards, a NYPD Cadet award, and the 5 scholarship essay contest winners. Congratulations to all who went home with an award or recognition and thank you to all who attended!



The next Explorer Officers Association meeting will be on March 9th 2011 at the LFL headquaters. To register for the meeting please visit the program calendar on this website and follow the prompts to register. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

The Winter Competition registration page is accessible by visiting the Law Enforcement Calendar January 17th event link. It will be held at Petrides High School in Staten Island. Be sure to come out and compete or observe as this years competition is sure to be an incredible experience!


The Recognition Dinner for 2011 will be held at Marina Del Rey in the Bronx on February 23rd 2011. Tickets are $60.00 per person for a full night of great food, awards, ceremonies and of course fun for all on the dance floor! The New York City Exploring Program placed in 50% of all competitions at the National Conference in Atlanta Georgia this month. Taking home 1st place in three of the twelve scenarios our Explorers train for! congratulations to all who participated in the competition! The Hampton's trip to the Linda Gridley's home was held this past Monday, July 11th. It was, as always, a great day of fun for the 100 Law Enforcement Explorers who attended. The BBQ, pool, field, volleyball, and beautiful weather contributed to a wonderful experience for all who were involved. A very special thank you to the Gridley family!

Spring Competition was a great success! 430 people attended as either competitiors or observers with representation from nearly 40 posts throughout the five boroughs. Thank you to all who supported the midway and the event in general. Photos will be available soon!

The Law Enforcement Exploring Program Recognition Dinner went off with a bang on 2/17/2010- All in attendance can agree it was a great night full of memories and good times! Personally, watching 700 people eat, drink, dance, and rejoice after a year of dedicated and focused participation in the 2009 year was rewarding. A special thanks to the FBI NYC field office for hosting the event. Next year be sure to get your tickets early, this event is bound to be sold out in the future. The Law Enforcement Academy successfully hosted nearly two hundred cadets for three weeks of intensive academic and hands-on procedural training and competition. Congratulations to our F.B.I. Post Advisor Agent Ambrisco for being awarded the Attorney General's Volunteer Award on June 3,2009. Her work for the Exploring Program is priceless and we thank you for your hard work and dedication.
